Description

Used to remove the bamboo peg (mekugi) from a nihonto or satoyama style handle to allow cleaning, oiling, and sharpening. About 2.5″ long, may be used by hand or tapped with a small mallet or wood block. Flat side may be used for pressure fit and release depending on mekugi shape. Narrow tip fits standard tanto and kotanto. Two available, see specific details below.

The steel mekugi-nuki are made from an actual sword tang (nakago) of unknown origin that was hand forged from layered steel. Natural patina finished with 100% pure tung oil, the steel should be oiled regularly with clove/sword oil.
