Description
Wooden mekugi-nuki tool can be used to remove the bamboo peg from a nihonto or fusion style handle when disassembling a knife for cleaning or sharpening.
Small art objects unto themselves, these are hand carved from interesting pieces of 70 year old pear wood and bark, softer than metal versions to help prevent damage to mekugi and tsuka. May be adjusted or re-dressed as needed over time with a carving knife or fine sandpaper. Various sizes range ~70-90mm (~2.5-3.5″) long. Narrow tip fits standard tanto and kotanto.
Also available in a magnolia wood.
Material: Hand carved wood reclaimed from making handles. Finished with 100% pure tung oil.
