Crossed Heart Forge 2016-2025: Tools for Satoyama Portfolio

A lovely large-format visual exploration of fields, forests, architecture, views, and textures curated during time spent in rural Japan over the past decade, interspersed with workshop process photos and finished knives from the Tools for Satoyama project by Crossed Heart Forge on Vancouver Island.
Satoyama are the managed forest areas that border the cultivated fields and the mountain wilds in Japan. Historically they provided soil nutrients, firewood, edible plants, mushrooms, fish, and game, and supported many local industries and crafts such as farming, timber construction, and charcoal making. The interaction of forest, arable land, wetlands, and streams are an important component of the satoyama landscape.
This documentary book project can be enjoyed by the collector, enthusiast, traveler, and craftsman alike. It features more than 350 photos and highlights over 30 featured knives spanning a decade of the Tools for Satoyama project at Crossed Heart Forge. Hardcover, A4 coffee table size, full colour, 160 pages.
