Steel Butter Knife

A highly sculptural fileworked piece inspired by the rounded butterknife appearance of a scrap of forged steel bar.

Island Blacksmith: Hand forged ironwork

The raw material for this piece was a scrap cut off of another project that had been hammered down to form a flat tab. The shape seemed so much like an overbuilt butter knife that I decided to finish it off in style without altering the original scrap too much.

This piece could be used in the kitchen, but would make a better sculpture, paper weight, or conversation piece due to its interesting heft and weight. The butter knife was hand forged from a reclaimed scrap and finished entirely by hand filing. The blade is 2.5″ long and the overall length is about 4″.

Material: Rolled steel scrap
A similar piece would start at $360
