Description

Used to remove the bamboo peg (mekugi) from a nihonto or satoyama style handle to allow cleaning, oiling, and sharpening. Various sizes range 3-4″ long, may be used by hand or tapped with a small mallet or wood block. Flat side may be used for pressure fit and release depending on mekugi shape. Narrow tip fits standard tanto and kotanto. Each is unique and numbers are very limited, see specific details below.

The steel mekugi-nuki are made from actual sword tangs (nakago) and are hand forged from steel, some with a hot stamped logo. Natural patina finished with 100% pure tung oil, the steel should be oiled regularly with clove/sword oil. The bamboo version was hand carved and left with a natural finish, and may be threaded with a cord through the lanyard hole.
