Used to remove the bamboo peg (mekugi) from a nihonto or satoyama style handle to allow cleaning, oiling, and sharpening. About 2.5″ long, may be used by hand or tapped with a small mallet or wood block. Flat side may be used for pressure fit and release depending on mekugi shape. The steel mekugi-nuki are made from an actual sword tang (nakago) of unknown origin that was hand forged from layered steel. Natural patina finished with 100% pure tung oil, the steel should be oiled regularly with clove/sword oil.
